Life by Lev
Lev Yilmaz created a series of animations called Tales of Mere Existence. Using transparent paper and a sharpie he connects in an honest and endearing way.  “I’m not going to think about her” is a personal favorite.

$1.9 Million Leica O-Series
This camera is a piece of photography history. Only 25 of these cameras were produced to test the market in 1923 and this is the only camera known that came with “Germany” engraved on its top plate.

The Conrad Rangali Island Maldives Hotel serves up a room that’s sixteen feet below the sea level.  Pricey?  Yes.  Will it be worth it to say you’ve ‘slept with the fishes’?  You’re such a nerd!  YEAH!

One-Minute Portraits
UK artist Benjamin Hammond has started an interesting site called One-Minute Portraits.  The premise is simple - you upload a shot of your face, and he sketches a portrait in less than a minute.  Pretty neat results.  The submission form is disabled for the time being (too many requests), but check back often.

BTS with Peter Funch
Peter Funch is a talented photographer who specializes in creating amazing composites of street scenes, where all the subjects do similar things (like all wearing the same color clothing, all doing the same action, etc).  The video above shows some behind-the-scenes of how he captures and processes his scenes.  Interesting how some of his shots take over fifteen-days to complete.  (P.S. - The...

Yes, more Star Wars.  Pretty cool project, though - take an iconic film character in Darth Vader, and have 100 of the world’s most renowned artists reimagine his helmet with stunning results.  The results are The Vader Project, which kicks off today in Los Angeles as an exhibition, with an auction later next month.  More information here. UPDATE: More on the exhibition and a gallery here.

Oh, They Noticed
You Thought We Wouldn’t Notice is a wiki-like site where anyone can submit examples of where art/ideas have been stolen or duplicated without permission across the Internet.  Some of it is humorous, some downright rotten, but its point comes across - the Internet may be too large to police, but a network of people wanting to protect their art is growing…

Chocolate represents the interesting collaboration of nine artists who worked for thirty-straight days in a warehouse in LA, with the goal to make a stop-motion video to a song from a foreign artist whose lyrics were unknown to them.  They restricted themselves to only use handmade cookies, sugar, milk, flour, chocolate, eggs and dough.  After six more weeks of post work, they unleashed their...

Chris Johanson is in our sights today.  He’s a super cool artist repped by the soon-to-be-defunct Deitch.  Caught his work at the Phillips De Pury preview in New York last week and am gaga over its playfulness, wit and whimsy (as well as his fun take on figurative art).  Check out this cool board for sale, with proceeds going to cerebral palsy.  $300 later and you’ll be the coolest...
